Day 9: Domino's Pizza and Rifles

Today was a fairly typical day by our new Colombian standards. Both girls slept until past 6:30 (a happy occurence), and subsequently were in great moods. We went to the market to replenish our grocery supply. We have fallen in love with these individual Lime Pies that the bakery sells. They are 1,000 pesos (about 85 cents) each and so divine.

Afterward, Philip and Caroline went to the pool for a bit. Luisa and I stayed at the apartment and watched Colombian cartoons. Two outings in one day is a bit much for her right now, and she is not a huge fan of the pool. This was followed by lunch and a pretty substantial nap.

For dinner, we decided to try something different.  We had spied a Domino's pizza across from the mall, so we ventured out to pick up a pizza. This was our first meal not made at the apartment, as well as out first afternoon excursion. It gets very windy and almost cool every afternoon here in Cali.

When we made it to the corner where we needed to cross the street to get to Domino's, we realized that there was no safe way to get the stroller across. Traffic is CRAZY here, and there was no light at this intersection.

We decided Philip would run across to get the pizza, and I would hang out on the street corner in front of the mall with the girls. No worries for our safety; there was an armed guard standing on the corner. And when I say armed, I mean with a rifle.

The pizza tasted ALMOST exactly like Domino's at home. For some reason, the crust was dusted with a layer of salt on top. But it was a yummy treat and nice to not cook for one evening.

I am so glad my girls were back to their normal, happy selves today!  Tomorrow we are going on an excursion with our hotel to a fruit and flower market.  I am praying it is not too overstimulating for sweet Luisa.  We have been excited about checking this one out!
